He graduated from South Portland High School and SMVTI's Culinary Art Program. He used his education as a talented chef while employed by Valle's Steak House.
Later, Stephen earned a bachelor of science degree in Art from USM. Stephen was a gifted artist who loved his family, history, books, and helping others. He will be remembered as a thoughtful, gentle soul who always had a smile on his face. Stephen was a great man and will be missed immensely.
He was predeceased by his parents; second wife Ann, then third wife Linda Johnson Tripp.
He is survived by two brothers, the Rev. George Tripp and his wife Norma of Alabama, and Glenn Tripp of Scarborough, his two sisters, Marion Harmon of Brooks, and Linda Tripp of South Portland; many loving nieces and nephews; as well as step children, Amy Johnson and Ellen Bradel her husband Jim; two step-grandchildren, Zachary and Joanne of Massachusetts; and his first wife, Susan Maddix.
His family would like to thank Windham Residential Care for the excellent care and welcoming him into their family. We would also like to thank the medical staff on ICU, 9th floor of MMC for their quality care and compassion.
Visiting hours will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be private at a later date.
