Darryl Sue Morais White passed away on April 5, 2016, ending an eight year battle with cancer that she fought with strength, grace, and humor.

Born on June 26, 1944 at Touro Hospital in New Orleans, Darryl Sue was a graduate of Isidore Newman School ('62), and attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO where she met art student Leonard Louis White on a blind date.

The couple returned to New Orleans and married by candlelight on September 12, 1965 compliments of Hurricane Betsy. After years as Director of Nursing, she became CEO at River Oaks Hospital in New Orleans for 18 years, where Debbie Osteen, Alan Miller and her co-workers were like a second family.

She retired in 2004. Just before another major hurricane, Katrina, Sue and Len uprooted from their longtime State Street Drive home to Covington where she enjoyed retirement to the fullest, hosting river-view front porch gatherings with neighbors and becoming active in the Northshore community

including the Northshore Synagogue, knitting club, and several Mah Jong groups.

With a second home in Savannah, she shared her struggle with cancer with her daughter, Ashley Morais White Samuels, who lost her fight with ovarian cancer at the end of 2013.

Throughout it all, Darryl Sue was an inspiration to all who crossed her path, never allowing her illness to get in the way of her passion for travel, good friends, and most of all, time spent with family. A lover of folk art, cocktails with friends, and having fun with grandchildren, she was known for her strength, drive, style, positive spirit, amazing energy, sharp wit, and the ability to live life to the fullest until the very end. She was described by all as an incredible woman.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Sidney Morais,

in-laws Hannah and Jack White, and

daughter Ashley Morais White Samuels.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Leonard Louis White, her son
Jason Aaron White, daughter-in-law Christine Baer White, son-in-law Scott Samuels,

grandchildren; Jared Samuels, Allison Samuels, and Jonah White;

Brother Lee Morais, sister-in-law Nancy Morais,

nieces Kelly Morais Abramson and Bennett Morais Cummings,

Aunt Evelyn Bennett (100), and an extended family of cousins and close friends.

Graveside services will be held At Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3 Mausoleum (2100 Pelopidas Street at Frenchmen Street) on Friday, April 8th at 1:00 PM, with Cantor David Mintz officiating.
