Vivian S. Burton, 85, of Davis Street died Saturday at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton, after a brief illness.

She was born in Potsdam and lived in California several months. She moved to Phoenix in 1944.

Mrs. Burton was a 1934 graduate of Potsdam Normal School. She taught in one-room schools in Northern New York for eight years before teaching fifth grade in Pennellville. She retired in 1973.

Her husband, Benjamin, was killed in action in 1944 on Leyte Island in the Philippines.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Phoenix, and the New York State Teachers Association.

Surviving are a son, Bruce A. of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Congregational Church, 41 Bridge St., the Rev. Richard H. Scheffler officiating. Spring burial is in Phoenix Rural Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

The family will receive friends in the chapel room after the services.

Contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 41 Bridge St., Phoenix 13135.
