Army Cpl. Nicholas A. Arvanitis, 22, of Salem, N.H.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Oct. 6 from injuries sustained when he encountered enemy fire in Bayji, Iraq. He was on his second tour of duty overseas when he was killed. He loved his country and wanted to defend it like his two grandfathers did. Nick was a great role model. Young guys looked up to him and leaders counted on him. Nick loved his family and his friends and will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him. Nick's smile will forever live in the hearts of those that loved him. He is survived by his Mother: Maureen Arvanitis of Manchester, NH., His Father: Richard Arvanitis of Methuen, MA., Sister: Kimberly Arvanitis of Manchester, NH., Maternal Grandparents Leonard & Rita Dill of Salem, NH., Paternal Grandmother: Linda Arvanitis of Lawrence, MA., Niece: Kiersten Lowe of Manchester, NH. A Funeral Service was celebrated Oct.l7 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, Salem, NH. Burial with full military honors followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
