He was born December 10, 1941 in Dallas to Maynard and Lorene Schoppaul Smith.
He graduated from Denton High School and was a member of Lake Dallas Church of Christ. He was self-employed as a horse trainer.
He married Candy McKnight on November 30, 1968 in Wareka, OK.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Candy of Hickory Creek; daughters, Rhonda Tekell of Denton, Candice Hunter of Krum, Jessica Allen of Dallas, and 7 grandchildren.
