WATERBURY- Claire B. Graham, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2016. She was the loving wife of Claude L. Graham, who predeceased her on November 5, 2012. She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Claire was born on January 1, 1925 and was the daughter of Blanche (Frigon) Baribeau and Joseph-Donat Baribeau. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School in 1943. Claire was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Claude L. Graham Builders. She was a skilled seamstress, sewing clothes for her herself and her family. She blessed her grandchildren with quilts, Raggedy Anns and Andys, Paddington Bears and dolls that she created “just for them.” Every Christmas, family members were delighted by beautiful handmade ornaments. Her love for crafts made each holiday special and lives on through her grandchildren today.

Claire’s love for art expressed itself at an early age, but it was during her later years that she was able to pursue her love of painting full time. She took art lessons and experimented with different mediums- acrylics, watercolors and pastels. She was a member of the Watertown Art League and exhibited oriental pieces, landscapes and miniatures in juried shows.

Married for 64 years, Claire and her husband, Claude, were inseparable. They were often found on their boat, The Marauder, and enjoyed cruising and fishing in the waters of Long Island Sound and beyond. They loved to travel and visited destinations in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. Family outings and celebrations also brought them much happiness.

Claire is survived by her daughter Julie Graham Peace and her husband William of Old Saybrook, her son Robert C. Graham and his wife Donna of Thomaston; her four grandchildren, Christopher Moody and his wife Jennifer, Jennifer Moody Eigo and her husband Glen, Larissa Graham and Janet Graham and five great grandchildren – Mary Jane, Shaelyn, Xander, Tyler and Cole. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Hamilton of Stratford, four nieces and three nephews. Claire was predeceased by her brother, Jean Baribeau.

Funeral will be held on Friday April 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday March 31, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Claire’s name to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank the compassionate staff at Cook Willow Convalescent Hospital in Plymouth, CT for the wonderful care they gave Claire throughout this past year.
