He grew up in Lake Township where he attended rural and parochial schools. He graduated from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School. Orlin helped and then took over the family farm. While running the family farm he met Helen Costello, they married December 28, 1968 making the farm their home. They moved to Lake City in 1971 where Orlin worked for the Farmer's Elevator and later for AG Partners until retiring.
Orlin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, anything that had to do with farming and most of all spending time with his granddaughter.
Orlin is survived by one son Scott Zillgitt of Lake City and granddaughter Serena LaBrash Zillgitt of Lake City along with many nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Helen, 2 infant sons Mark and Mike and one infant daughter Mary, 2 brothers Frederick and Allen and two sisters Florence Zillgitt and Gladys Breuer.
A funeral service will be Saturday, April 9, at 11AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN with Pastor John Berg officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
