Vergil E. Wolf, 93, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, following a brief illness.
Vergil was born on September 11, 1922, in Richland County, to Alvin and Freda (Foulk) Wolf. He was a member of the Stewart Road Church of God. He was also a member of the VFW 3494 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees Construction Battalion 141 Unit. He was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. He received a BA in Pastoral Studies and Bible, and became a Missionary/Overseer through Church of God World Missions for 30 years, primarily serving in Guatemala and Costa Rica, where he started two Bible Schools and over 200 churches. During that time, he also served in Mexico, Panama and with the American Indians. After retirement, he worked in the prison ministries with his brother Raymond and in the Hispanic ministry. Vergil authored and published his autobiography entitled, “Real Life of a Missionary”. He had a heart for the Lord, and his life was about serving Him and reaching others for Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Dummitt-Wolf; five children, Daniel (Neina) Wolf of Mansfield, Philip (Rebecca) Wolf of Bellefontaine, Judy (Aubrey) Baker of Calhoun, GA, Jeanne (Bobby) Wood of Harrison, TN, and Joyce (Frankie) Tyson of Guatemala; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Norman (Mary) Wolf.
Vergil was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen (Ager) Wolf; his second wife, E. Pearl Wolf; and three siblings, Harold (Ethel) Wolf, Ethel (Larry) Williams, and Raymond (Joanne) Wolf.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Stewart Road Church of God, 1425 N. Stewart Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016, with Church of God State Office Administrative Bishop Wayne Dority and Pastor Samuel Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Cemetery.
