Before being assigned to the Marine Guard Group in San Francisco, he and his beloved Mary Crumley were married. Their marriage continued for 66 years until her death on August 18th 2011.

After WWII, Bill heard God’s call to be a minister like his father. He attended Emory & Henry College in Virginia, Vanderbilt, Duke University, and Emory University Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rev. Horner was ordained in 1956. He served as a Methodist Pastor in churches in Tennessee located in: Johnson City, Unicoi, Nashville, Dunlap, Chattanooga, Loudon, Knoxville and Kingsport.
