Carl J. Acheson
The service for Carl J. Acheson, 67, 502 North B St., who died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 1992, at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by family visitation from 7:30 to 8:30. A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association.
Acheson was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Commerce, the son of Latta and Lenora Bertrand Acheson. he married Esther Cole on March 6, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. A Fairfield resident for most of his life, he had been an engineer for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline for 29 years before retiring. He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Douglas and David, both of Ankeny; five grandchildren and two sisters, Pauline Crooks of Washington, Iowa and Louise Morris of Des Moines. His parents and a daughter preceded him in death.
Note: The obituaries have conflicting dates of death. Social Security record lists 9 February, so that is the date on this memorial. Carl shares a stone with Esther A. Cole Acheson, born 1928. There is no existing death record for Esther, so assumption is she is alive.
