Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Charlie Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Smetana Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. J.D. Was born at Cross Roads, Texas in Henderson County, on March 15, 1924 to R.D. and Della (Rogers) Robertson. He attended school at Cross Roads through the eighth grade. He quit school in order to help the family survive as times were very difficult. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. J.D. joined the Army in October 1943 and served until January 1946. He reached the grade of TEC 5, and received the EAME Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars, Good Conduct, Purple Heart and WW2 Victoria Medals. After the war J.D. worked as a butcher in his brothers-in-law meat market in Athens, Texas. While working there he met a Game Warden, Fred Gillam. Warden Gillam recommended that he go to Game Warden school at Texas A&M College in College Station, Texas. He thought J.D. would make a good warden. Well, he was right. J.D. spent the next 31 years performing his duty. In all those 31 years and until his death, there was never a bad word said about J.D. Robertson. After retiring from the state, J.D. opened Green Branch Fish Farm at Steep Hollow on the Jim Beard Ranch. He raised all sorts of different species, but mostly catfish. He spent the next 21 years doing what he loved best and feeding lots of folks. After he retired from fish farming, J.D. opened up a "pic and pay" large garden off Wickson Lake Road. He toiled in that garden for the next 10 years feeding lots of people for very little money. Strength.....Honesty.....Integrity..... Fair and Unselfish, best describes J. D. Robertson. My hero, the best dad in the world!! Dale. J.D. was preceded in death by his wife Billie Carol Hendrix Robertson; parents, R.D. and Della Robertson; brothers, W.W. "Bill" Robertson and W.V.
