Mrs. Louise Henderson Cox, 84, of Decatur, Alabama, formerly of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away Sunday April 3, 2016.

Mrs. Cox was born November 3, 1931 in Manor, Georgia to the late Floyd and Ruby Corbitt Henderson.

She graduated from Hoboken High School. After graduation she worked at King Edward Cigar Factory in Waycross, Georgia. In 1947, Louise met her future husband, married Christmas Eve 1949, and started a family before obtaining her nursing degree in 1967. Louise was gifted with a special love for pediatric nursing and began her career with Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital. She also did private duty nursing while living in Georgia. After relocating to Alabama in 1974, Louise was employed by Decatur General Hospital.

Louise enjoyed gardening, and RV camping while traveling the United States with her husband upon retirement. She loved reading her Bible, reading books by her favorite Christian authors, and was fond of southern literature based upon the Golden Isles of Georgia. Louise took great joy in serving her church and held the positions of church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick, at Southwest Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama, and later for Fellowship Baptist Church where her membership remained.

Louise Cox is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Colquitt R. Cox; daughters Patricia R. Cox of Crestview, Florida and Teresa Cox King of Foley, Alabama; son Clifton R. Cox of Decatur; grandchildren Mark Russell Peterson, Jennifer King Wynn and her husband Ken, Jake King and his wife Kristin; great-grandchildren Kayla Wynn, Hayden Wynn, Lily King, and Cali Vice; her aunts and uncles who were more like siblings, Nannie Doris Henderson Pittman, Ruth Henderson (Claude) Strickland, Nadine Henderson Pittman, Lawana Henderson McClellan, Frank (Pauline) Henderson, Felder (Pat) Corbitt; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and special family members she held dear.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Cox was joins her sister Thelma Henderson Harper, and her granddaughter, Allison Lauren King in heaven.

Calling hours for Mrs. Cox will be held from 10 am to 11 am Friday, April 8th, 2016 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Georgia. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the Woods- Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be held at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Cox’s honor to Gentiva Hospice, 1015 1st Ave SW, Cullman, AL 35055 or to Meals on Wheels of Decatur, AL.
