William was the son of William & Persis Horton.
He was the husband of Polly Amelia Cohoon, daughter of James & Palmyra (Beard) Cohoon. The couple had no children.

William and Persis Horton brought their entire family of 6 children to Wisconsin, possibly because of The Homestead Act. They settled and helped build settlements around what is now Mauston, Wisconsin.
