US Congressman. He attended the University of Michigan before graduating from Union College in 1852. He studied law, became an attorney and was also editor of Greenport's Republican Watchman newspaper. Reeves was elected to Congress as a Democrat in 1868 and served one term, 1869 to 1871. He did not run for reelection and returned to editing the Republican Watchman. He was Southold's Town Supervisor and a member of the Suffolk County Board of Supervisors from 1872 to 1894. Reeves also served in the New York Assembly in 1887 and was a Member of the State Commission on Lunacy from 1889 to 1897.
