She came to the United States with her daughter, Helena, in October 1882 and worked as a domestic for Dr. West in Greenwich Village, New York. Her daughter, Anna Helena Andersson, died in 1892 of Bright's Disease at the age of fifteen. After her daughter's death, she moved to Philadelphia and began working for the Wistar Morris Family at Green Hills Farm (now Friends Central School) in Overbook, Pennsylvania. While there, she was able to secure employment for her niece and nephews who came from Sweden looking to settle in the USA. At this time, she was living on North Felton Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and she provided housing for her niece and nephews. She retired in 1919. Sometime before her death, she had moved to the Presbyterian Home for Widows and Single Women.
