Roy Edward "Pete" Dawson, 84, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center.
Born August 23, 1931 at home in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Gershom and Margie Viola (Sprankle) Dawson. He was their 9th child of 13.
Pete worked over 30 years at Brandt Cabinet Works and 11 years at Statton Furniture as the best laquor sprayer in town.
He was dedicated with the Salvation Army and was a member of the Eagles Club, Post No. 694. Pete was a lifetime musician, best known for playing in the band "Silvertones". He had a great following. Asides from music, he enjoyed puzzles, bus trips, and family gatherings.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Linda C. (McCarty) Dawson; three daughters, Judy Dean and husband Dizzy, Diane McAllister and husband Doug, Shawn Hasenbuhler and friend John Bates; three sons, Thomas Dawson, Sr. and wife Brenda, Daniel Dawson and wife Tina, Robert Dawson and wife Kim; a brother, Garry Dawson; a sister, Hazel Grove; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many friends at Franco's Cafe and Hagerstown Friends Bus Tours.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Miriam Davis Dawson; a granddaughter, Crystal Dean; five brothers; and five sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00am on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Robert Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Manor Church of the Brethren Cemetery, in Boonsboro.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
