Marilyn L. Brotherton

Steamboat Springs resident Marilyn L. Brotherton passed away Sept. 13, 2007, at home with her family after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 59.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, an adoring mother of three daughters, a passionate "Nonee" to four grandchildren, a much-loved little sister to three siblings and a caring friend of many.

Marilyn was born in Wichita, Kan., in 1948. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs and soon thereafter married the love of her life, David Brotherton, on Oct. 1, 1966. Their loving union resulted in the birth of three daughters, Misti Melaine in 1972, Dusti Delaine in 1973 and Kelsi Joelle in 1985. She welcomed three sons-in-law into the family circle as each of her daughters was married - Brandon Smith in 1991, Chad Wolfe in 1992 and Anson Ricord in 2007. She loved the boys as if they were her own. Misti and Brandon blessed the family with the first grandchild, Cade Daeton, in 1996, followed by Ashton Danyelle in 1997. In 2003, Alexa Ivy was born to Dusti and Chad, followed by Camri Jolaine in 2006. Marilyn wholeheartedly aspired to be the "World's Best Nonee," and if you could ask her "kiddles," they would say she definitely succeeded. Marilyn and David celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2006 with their family and close friends. The wonderful memories of this celebration of their love will long be cherished by her family.

Marilyn poured her heart into being a doting wife, mother and grandmother. She also was an exemplary homemaker, business partner and loyal servant of Jehovah God. She immensely enjoyed spending time with her family, but especially with her beloved grandchildren. She graciously devoted her time and energy to the Christian ministry, endeavoring to study the Bible with any who wanted to learn. She also loved her family vacations, especially those that involved her and David's shared love of the ocean and scuba diving. Grand Cayman, British West Indies, became their "home away from home," where they created many precious friendships and countless memories.

Marilyn indelibly touched the lives of those who were blessed to know and love her. Her unwavering Bible-based faith of a resurrection to life in a paradise, free from pain and suffering, was an inspiration to her family and friends. We will count down the days until that time arrives. Until then, she will be forever remembered in our hearts with immense love and utmost admiration.

Marilyn was preceded in death by both her parents, Ivan and Joella Johnson.

She is survived by her siblings, Shirley and her husband, Bill Keliehor, Jerry and his wife, Martha Johnson, and Don and his wife, Bonnie Johnson. A memorial service in her honor was held at 4 p.m. Sept. 22, 2007, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Steamboat Springs
