Professional Basketball Player. Born Archie William Dees, he played the positions of power forward and center for four different teams in the National Basketball Association from 1958 to 1961. As a stellar basketball player at Indiana University, he received the Big Ten Conference Most Valuable Player award twice (1957, 1958) and was consensus second-team All-American in 1958. He was drafted second overall in the 1958 NBA draft by the Cincinnati Royals. During his NBA career, which span from 1958 to 1961, he played for the Royals, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Packers, and St. Louis Hawks. His NBA career statistics during the four span included 1,548 points, 907 rebounds, and 132 assists. He was inducted into the Indiana University Hall of Fame in 1983 and in 2001 was named to the university's All-Century Team.
