Born at Manor Cottage, Clewer Green, Windsor, Berkshire, on 16 May 1914, the only son of Nigel Walter Henry Legge-Bourke, an officer in the Coldstream Guards, of Hayes, Co. Meath, and his wife, Lady Victoria Alexandrina Wynn-Carington, fifth daughter of the Marquess of Lincolnshire.
