Virgil was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Mellich and two brothers, Alfred and Steve Wood. He loved his garden, and retired as a fireman Staff Sgt E8 from the US Army, where he received numerous medals, including the Bronze Star, of which he was very proud. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Grace Sphar Wood.
