Kathryn May Bishop, 93, of Charlottesville, Va., died on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Christopher Center at Our Lady of Peace.Born October 1, 1922 in Pierre, S.D., she was the daughter of Emery Glen Harvison and Mayme Zink Harvison.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Bishop Jr.

Kathryn spent her childhood years in Gettysburg, S.D. She studied teaching, achieving a Master's Degree in administration from the University of Oregon, and moved to Portland to start her teaching career. She married Charlie Bishop in 1957 and started a family. After moving to Virginia Beach she became a reading specialist, retiring in 1985 after 32 years. After Charlie's death in 1991, she remained active in many organizations in Virginia Beach, moving to Charlottesville in 2001 to be closer to family.

She is survived by her daughter, Clarice Schermerhorn and husband, Dave, of Troy, Va.; one son, Charles H. Bishop III and wife, Nancy, of Troy; granddaughters, Margaret Schermerhorn of Troy; Anne Schermerhorn of Troy; Laura Schermerhorn of Seattle, Wash.; sister-in-law, Reva Bishop of Charlottesville; nephew, John Bishop of Charlottesville; Jim Bishop of Charlottesville; and Sandra Riggins of Troy.

The family would like to thank the Christopher Center staff as well as the Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care of our mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 4, 2016, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hill and Wood Funeral home in Charlottesville. A private interment will take place in Virginia Beach at a later date.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
