Ralph Liss Saunders was born on April 16, 1933 in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of Hammet Liss Saunders (1905-1975) and Lena Mae (Pasley) Saunders (1905-1986).
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke, earned his degree in accounting at Virginia Tech, and later earned his Masters of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee - Nashville.
Ralph was married on September 13, 1958 to Barbara Zelda Sanders.
After passing the CPA exam on his first attempt, he spent many years working in accounting and finance including 15 years as the Treasurer of The Tennessean and the Chief Financial Officer of Newspaper Printing Corporation. He eventually retired from Caterpillar Financial at the age of 75.
Spending time with family was the joy of his life and he always made time for every sporting event, school play, band program and church musical when his grandchildren were involved.
A resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Ralph was 82 years old when he passed away on April 1, 2016.
Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Saunders and by his brother Grady Saunders, he was survived by his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law; a daughter; six grandchildren; two sisters; a married brother; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
