William H. Baker of 618 N. Horsman St., Rockford, died at 3 o'clock Tuesday morning, his death resulting from a stroke of apoplexy sustained Monday night at 8:30 o'clock. Mr. Baker was at his work as usual on Monday and appeared in his customary health. He ate supper with the family Monday evening, but about two hours later was stricken with a severe stroke of apoplexy. He sank gradually during the night and the end came Tuesday morning about 3 o'clock.
William Baker was born in New York state, 68 years ago this week. He came to Illinois forty years ago and for over thirty years lived in Rockton where he had many friends. About seven years ago he moved to Rockford. He was a blacksmith by trade and for the last few years had been employed by the H.H. Palmer Churn Co.
He is survived by his wife and ten children, Mrs. E.O. Gridley, Mrs. H.H. Cross and Mrs. James Hare of Rockford, Mrs. Edward Ward of this village, and Miss Fannie Baker, Miss Sadie Baker, Ed, Fred, George and Roy, all of Rockford. A son, William Baker died three years ago.
A brief funeral service will be held at the home Thursday noon. The body will be brought to Rockton on a special car over the interurban at 1 o'clock and the funeral service will be held in the Methodist church at 2 o'clock. Burial will take place in the village cemetery.
