“Isaac S. Zartman, son of John, son of John Michael, son of Alexander II, son of Alexander I, was born September 18, 1823, baptized Nov. 16, 1823, in Lancaster County., Pa. When a young man he went West and located in Freeport, Illinois, which is now a city of about 20,000 inhabitants; he engaged in the lumber trade. On Jan. 3, 1854, he married Elizabeth E. Baker, and to them was born a son, Harvey Baker Zartman, on July 14, 1866. Isaac S. Zartman died Jan. 4, 1899. Mrs. Isaac S. Zartman died June 15, 1891. Harvey B. Zartman is a graduate of the Freeport High School and is engaged in the lumber and coal business. He is with the firm of Sanford and Zartman. On Jan. 3, 1894, Harvey B. Zartman married Mabel Louise Ford; they are members of the Presbyterian Church and have the following children: Elizabeth, b. Nov. 29, 1894, died Oct 19, 1896; Harvey Ford, b. "ISAAC S. ZARTMAN - one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of this city, passed away at his home on Stephenson street at 1:15 o'clock this afternoon. He had been ailing for nearly a year. His trouble was obscure but his physician, Dr. Caldwell, suspects it to be multiple abscesses of the liver. The deceased was born Sept. 18, 1823, in Lancaster county, Pa., where he grew to manhood. He came west when a young man and settled in this county July 11, 1853. He began working at the trade of carpenter and joiner and was quite successful. In 1863 he opened the Pennsylvania house and conducted it for many years. In 1881 he sold the house to Robert Bell and retired. He was married to Elizabeth E. Baker on Jan. 31, 1854. She died in 1891. Mr. Zartman leaves one son Harvey B. Zartman."
