Smithfield—Dr. Harold Keith Underwood, 78, of Lakeside Drive passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Dr. Underwood was born in Johnston County on May 12, 1937, son of the late Marvin Eugene and Ruth Bagley Underwood. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Watson Underwood who died July 13, 2012. He was a Chiropractor, practicing for 48 years. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a member of Smithfield Kiwanis Club for over 40 years. He also sang with the Johnston County Choral Society and loved to play golf.
Dr. Underwood is survived by his son, Keith Underwood and wife Kim of Four Oaks, his daughter, Lauren Underwood of Smithfield, two sisters, Jean U. Creech of Pennsylvania and Winifred U. Ballard of Florida, and his grandchildren, Leslie U. Marion and husband Tyler, Ryan Underwood, and Bailey Barnes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the chapel of Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield, with Reverend Sam Blackman officiating. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Clayton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
