Ms. Austin, age 94, of Whitehall, passed away at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born the daughter of the late Lawrence and Addie (Wheeler) Johnson.
She graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1941 and was a telephone operator in Rochester and Ticonderoga. She married Hanford Austin on October 23, 1943, and they celebrated 68 years together. She enjoyed the country life and working with her family on their dairy farm on Granville Road.
She enjoyed large family gatherings, especially when there was music and dancing. She loved nature, animals, and the outdoors. She was extremely spiritual and was a devoted member of the Whitehall United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She devoted her life to caring for loved ones.

She will be dearly missed by her four sons; a daughter; seven treasured grandchildren; and nine precious great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Hanford, son Donald and grandson Clayton.

A celebration of life for both Doris and Hanford Austin and a memorial service was held at the Whitehall United Methodist Church. A reception was held in the church hall immediately following.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams Street in Whitehall.
