Mrs. Welch was born April 19, 1924, in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of the late Henry Adolph and Bertha Henrietta (Vahrenkamp) Quebe where she graduated from McGregor High School. On November 24, 1945, she married Chris (C.F.)Weiss in a double ring ceremony with Hazel's identical twin sister, Helen to Alfred Wiethorn, at Zion Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death March 25, 1995. She later married Vernon James Welch on July 5, 1997, at Zion Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death January 15, 2009. Much of her life was spent as a bookkeeper at Citizens National Bank in Waco which later became Bank of America and First National Bank of McGregor during World War II and retired in the mid 1970's. She was also a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm. As long as her health permitted, she was an active member of Zion Lutheran church. Also preceding her in death was a step-son, Bill Welch.
Survivors include a son James Weiss and wife June, daughter Pat Praesel and husband Glenn; two sisters Helen Wiethorn, Mildred Engelbrecht and her husband Louis; a grandson, Phillip Praesel, two granddaughters, Chelsea Weiss, April Weiss; two step-sons, Jim Bob Welch and wife Sandy, Johnny Welch and wife, Sue, two step-daughters, Cathy Welch Casbeer and husband Ernie, Lori Walker and several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
