Wayne William Erickson, age 89, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls Township, died at home on Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2016.
Wayne was born on January 15, 1927 in Cannon Falls Township, the son of William and Clara (Wenz) Erickson. Wayne attended Cannon Falls School, graduating in 1944. On March 25, 1951, Wayne married the love of his life, Irene Vandenheuvel of Dennison at First English Lutheran Church of Cannon Falls. Wayne and Irene farmed full time until the early 1970's. Wayne became employed by the Cannon Falls School District 252 as Transportation Supervisor and was employed until 1992, when he retired. He drove school bus for over 40 years.
Wayne's passions were farming, hunting, fishing, and enjoying time with his family. He was a member of First English Lutheran church all of his life and served on church council. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League; he was a firm believer in preserving wildlife and clean water. Wayne was an animal lover, especially his dogs and horses. He loved being around young people, and enjoyed sporting events involving his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Irene; three children, Bill (Vicki), Doug (Suzan), and Cindy (Mark) Sjoquist, all of Cannon Falls; 10 grandchildren, Corey (Stacey) Sjoquist, Shawn (Megan) Erickson, Kelly (Chris) Koppmann, Kathy (Travis) Haefs, Monica (Jake) Dinauer, Peter (Brook) Erickson, Joe Erickson (Mickey Severtson), William (Beth) Erickson, Molly (Ryan) Olson, and Maggie (Brock) Wilson; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Erickson; brother, Harlan "Bud" (Florence) Erickson; sister, Bernice (Art) VanGuilder; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Jo.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3 from 2-5 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. A memorial service will be on Monday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Inurnment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Active urn bearers will be grandsons, Corey Sjoquist, Shawn Erickson, Peter Erickson, Joe Erickson, and William Erickson.
Memorials are preferred in Wayne's memory to donor's choice of any children's hospital.

Wayne was a terrific school bus driver for 4 generations of children on one route. My children and niece were privileged to have known him and be their bus driver for all their years at school.
