James “Jim” Mallett, 84 of Sun City,Ariz., formerly ofGreeley,Colo., died Monday, Feb. 29, 2016.

Service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, both at Adamson Chapel. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born Dec. 31, 1931 in Lexington to Mark Edward and Gertrude Lucille (Campbell) Mallett, where he grew up and attended schools, graduating from Lexington High School.

On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Jean Marcella Odstrcil in Lexington and they moved to Colorado in 1959. Jim served in the National Guard for 10 years and began his career as a fireman with Denver Fire Department in 1960, retiring in 1985. In 1970, he started Transco Inc., servicing trucking companies in Greeley and later across the nation.

He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed Nebraska and CU football, UNC volleyball in Greeley, the Colorado Rockies, as well as gardening, traveling, boating and water skiing. He also enjoyed working in Arizona with Spring Training at the fields for 10 years.

Jim was a member of the Elks, Czech Club in Arizona and Retired Firefighters of Denver.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of Sun City, Ariz.; sons, Michael (Aby) of Phoenix, Steven of Greeley, Patrick (D.J.) of Littleton, Tom (Tanya) of Torrance, Calif., and John (Lori) of Aurora, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Bridget, Kristen, Mark, Dana, Greta, Santiago, Diego, Kayla, Trevor, Brett, Juliana and Caden; two great-grandchildren, Adriana and Teagan as well as a sister, Judy (Stan) Kessler of Kendelville, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
