William Boyd Summey,
82, went to be with the Lord Monday (June 30, 2008) at Holston Manor.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on July 4, 1925 to the late Raymond Richmond Summey and Mary Lizzie Dockery Summey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hobart (Jr.) Summey. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from the City of Kingsport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving our country during World War II, where he was a Prisoner of War and was in the 4th Infantry, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and on Normandy Beach, receiving a Purple Heart along with other service medals.

Boyd was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Summey, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Roger Greene, Carol and Ronald Trent, Pansy and Jeffery Wilson, all of Ft. Blackmore, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Cindy Summey, Kingsport; granddaughters, Becky Hosein, Robin Cole, Melissa Caldwell, Jennifer Oaks, Tara Oaks and Stacey Gillenwater; grandsons, Ryne Trent, Allen Oaks, Brandon Summey and Matthew Summey; step-grandchildren, Hannah, Vickie, Josh and Blake; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kaylee, Natasha, Holly and Thomas; brother and sister-in-law, Garnie and Juanita Summey, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; sister-in-law, Barbara Summey; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence before 8 p.m.

Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Edgar "Bud" Darnell and Bro. L. W. "Red" Salling officiating.

Music will be provided by Family Gospel.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brickey Cemetery, Wood community of Ft. Blackmore, Va. with American Legion Hammond Post #265 and Gate City Post #3 with the National Guard Honor Guard. The family will meet 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Allen Oaks, Brandon Summey, Matthew Summey, Jerry Lawson, Terry Begley, Victor Finch, Tommy Salyer, Jr. and Kyle Horne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Ray Summey, Danny Summey, Mark Summey, Ronnie Summey, Donnie Begley, Bobby Begley and Junior Ramey.

Gate City Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
