Katie and her mother Jennifer were profiled in The South Whidbey Record earlier this year for a Mother's Day article detailing Katie's four-year battle with cancer.
"We're having fun gathering all the little treasures she left behind from the hundreds of well-wishers over the years," Richmond said. "We'll be celebrating her life on Saturday."
Katie was born July 21, 1999, in Coupeville to Jeff and Jennifer (Coupe) Richmond. She was diagnosed at age 3 with neuroblastoma cancer.
Visitation for Katie will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor.
Funeral services for Katie will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Whidbey Evangelical Free Church in Greenbank, with Pastor Phil Stevenson officiating. Graveside service will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville.
The family is asking all of Katie's friends and classmates to attend, and Katie would approve of casual attire.
Memorials may be made in Katie's name to Katie's Fund, c/o any branch of Whidbey Island Bank, to Children's Hospital Foundation, PO Box C5371, Seattle, WA 98105-0371 or to the Whidbey Evangelical Free Church.
A complete obituary will be published in Saturday's edition of The Record.
