Irene Agnes “Jake” (Jacobson) Chevalier, 83, of Jacksonville, Alabama, died at Regional Medical Center of Anniston on March 25, 2016. Born in 1932 in Pidgeon Falls, Wisconsin, she grew up on a farm as the fourth of eight children of Agnes Catherine Thompson and Hansel Jacobson. After high school, she joined the Women’s Army Corps and served during the Korean War. In December 1953, she married MSGT Leo Norbert Chevalier. During their marriage, they lived and traveled throughout the United States and Europe. They had eight daughters and a son. When Leo retired from the Army, he and Irene remained in Jacksonville, Alabama. She is survived by eight children, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo N. Chevalier; her daughter, Caroline Chevalier; and her siblings, Jeannette and Richard. In accordance with her wishes, a memorial service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery later this year, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and daughter.
