From News accounts of what happened:
Clifford Laurel [Laurell], 4 [6]years old, lost his life on Sunday evening when a slide of earth buried him in a sewer trench in Riverview, near Wyandotte. Several children were playing on the mound of ___ earth beside it. Clifford was playing alone in the trench when the earth gave way and slid upon him.
His cousin, Dorothy Lamber [Lambrix], 8 years old, jumped in as the slide began hoping to pull him out before the earth had covered him. She herself was buried to the neck. All her efforts to save Clifford by pushing the earth away from his head were unavailing.
Firemen tried in vain to remove the boy with a pulmotor. Among the other children present were Roy Lamber [Lambrix] 8, Dorothy's brother and Bobby Mathin, also 3. Clifford was the son of Clifford Laurel [Laurell] of Riverview. (The ages and spelling of the names were incorrect in this account of the incident)

Boy Meets his Death in Dirt Cave-in
Clifford Lorell [Laurell], a Riverview boy eight years of age met his death Monday afternoon [it was Sunday evening] when several tons of clay became dislodged and fell into an eight foot excavation in that village.
Dorothy Lambert [Lambrix] a girl seven years old was also caught in the slide but was taken out alive.
The Wyandotte fireman responded to a call with a pulmotor, but all efforts at resuscitation went for naught.
Other children who were playing near the pile of earth attempted to save young Lorell [Laurell] Death resulted inside of ten minutes after the earth had fallen.
Funeral services for the Lorell [Laurell] boy were held at St Joseph's church in Trenton on Wednesday morning. The remains were buried in Rockwood. [St Mary's]
__This was a very heart breaking event for all concerned-------Dorothy and Roy Lambrix are cousins of Clifford Jr. The plot of land for the burial was given to the family by another family member. There is no marker.
