In Memory of
Anne Dodson Suddeth

Anne was born in Monroe, Georgia, on November 22, 1923, the daughter of Nellie Cooper and Jack Dodson. She passed quietly on December 22. She was married to James Allen Suddeth, and was the mother of J. Allen Suddeth and Annelle Suddeth Reid (deceased). Her grandchildren include Nicole Suddeth, Patrick Suddeth, Cooper Reid and David Reid.

Anne grew up in rural Monroe, Georgia, riding horses, roller skating, and enjoying the country life. She moved to Atlanta, after graduating from Middle Georgia College, to earn a secretarial degree. There she met Jim Suddeth, a BMOC in his final year at Georgia Tech.

Anne married Jim after his Army training, moving to Boston shortly thereafter. This began a long odyssey of military "bivouacs" as she called them, numbering 27 in all. These included stays in California, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Kansas, and more romantic postings such as Martinique, Puerto Rico, Vienna, and Paris. They settled in Richmond, Va., where they lived for 35 years.

Anne was always busy with projects, from cooking and sewing to painting, from tending her yard to playing bridge, from antiquing, to golf and tennis. She was an inveterate party giver, hosting countless soirées, bridge clubs, military brass, NATO bigwigs, wedding parties, and others into her gracious home. As a graduate of the Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris, she enjoyed creating gastronomic delights from around the world.

Anne was an elegant, and generous woman who had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She will be missed. Services will be private.
