Ronald K. “Ronnie” Robbins, 59, of Mendenhall Hill Road, Benton, died early Monday morning, March 28, 2016, at his home. He had been in ill health for the past two years.

Born May 24, 1956, at the Bloomsburg Hospital, he was a son of the late Leon A. Robbins, who died Sept. 19, 2013, and Leona G. (Sones) Robbins, who died Oct. 23, 1983. He and his wife, Charity J. (Morris) Robbins, would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on April 17.

Ronnie attended Benton schools and graduated from Columbia-Montour Vocational-Technical School in 1974.

He operated R. Robbins Excavating for 30 years and also was a Jackson Township supervisor from 2006 to 2015. He was also a sales representative for W.S. Darley, selling fire trucks and fire equipment.

Ronnie was a member of the Waller United Methodist Church. He was a very active member of the Benton Volunteer Fire Company and had served as Fire Chief for several terms. He also enjoyed being a Civil War re-enactor and was with the 81st Pennsylvania Company K. He was also a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War No. 8. In his younger years, he was involved with the Big Brother/ Big Sister program.

His hobbies included paint-balling and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Charity, are his children: Leeann Robbins and her fiancé, Kevin Kinney, of Bloomsburg; Deric Sharkuski and his wife, Lesa, of Mount Carmel; Lauren Musser and her husband, Calvin, of Benton; three grandchildren: Chloe, Kohen and Carsen. Also surviving are his siblings: Betty J. Edwards and her husband, Allen, of Berwick; Patty R. Sterner and her husband, Jim, of Waller; Richard W. Robbins and his wife, Linda, of Berwick; a brother-in-law, Luther Spiece of Benton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris R. Spiece, on July 14, 2015, and a great-niece, Stephanie Ann Spiece, on June 21, 2009.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 1, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Route 487) with Pastor James E. Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery at Derrs.
