Professional Basketball Player, Coach, Executive. He played and coached for the National Basketball Association's New York Knicks and then served as general manager of the Denver Nuggets of both the American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association. He played basketball at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Denver and was part of the U.S team that won the gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. In 1949 he joined the New York Knicks of the NBA where played for six seasons before he became the head coach of the team in 1955. As a player, he was a NBA all-star in 1951 and scored 3,187 points with 831 rebounds and 610 assists during his pro career. He became the coach of the Knicks in 1955 and served in this position until 1958. He later became the general manager of the Denver Larks (later Rockets and Nuggets) of the American Basketball Association and then moved over to the Utah Stars in the same position. He later rejoined the Nuggets in the NBA as general manager and was named the NBA Executive of the Year in 1984. He was inducted both the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and National Polish-American Hall of Fame.
