Ellie is survived by her daughters, Norie Sanchez (Enrique), Cynthia Riggle, Nancy Wickmark (Steven), and Janice Ulrich (Keith); nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and "adopted" daughters, Sivika Punyashthiti of Bangkok and Dang Bach Tuyet of Toronto. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Frederick Arthur Washington; sister, Helen Griffith Gear; and brother, Robert Griffith.
Ellie enjoyed her life with her family and friends as a Cassadaga resident for 53 years and spent her remaining years in North Myrtle Beach, SC and Monroe, NC. Ellie lived her life with a passion for art and beauty. Even into her nineties, she was still creating gifts for others, like quilts and pillowcases to bring joy to friends and loved ones, including children at the Ronald McDonald House. She had great curiosity about the world, traveling widely and serving as an American Field Service host mom, chapter president and district representative in the 1970s. She loved gardens and reading, serving as president of the Cassadaga Garden Club, and of the Fredonia Shakespeare club. She enjoyed being a part of various quilting and china painting groups.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, March 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The RED House, 91 Frisbee Road, Cassadaga. Ellie's life will be celebrated at a 2 p.m. service at the Cassadaga Community Church, 25 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, NY on Friday, March 11. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Ellie requested donations to the Cassadaga Library or your charity of choice. Arrangements by the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, NY.
