U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Winnfield High School in 1945, served in the U.S. Navy (1946-48), graduated from Northeast Junior College in 1950 and graduated from Northwestern State College in 1951. He was recalled to active duty in the Navy, serving (1951-52), graduated from Louisiana State University Law School, was admitted to the Louisiana bar and practice law in Jena, Louisiana. Entering politics, he was a member of the Louisiana State Senate (1956-64), elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving (1965-73). After leaving Congress, he became the district attorney for the Louisiana Twenty-eighth Judicial District, serving (1973-85).
