Richard (Dick) Charles Miller passed away in his home on March 15, 2016 at age 92 surrounded by his beloved wife of 70 years and three children.
Richard C. Miller is survived by his wife Betty Miller, two sons Terry (wife Caren) Miller and Rex (wife Lisa) Miller, and daughter Pam (husband Tom) Missman, 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by one sister and was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Dick Miller served as a B-17 ball-turret gunner with the 303rd Bomb Group, 8th US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was shot down near Schweinfurt Germany and spent 15 months in four German POW camps. Dick was liberated May 1945, honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant and always very proud of his country.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Betty (Schumacher) 8/7/1945, in Bremen Indiana where they raised their three children. In 1965 Dick and Betty moved to the mid-Michigan area where he continued his sales career and upon retirement moved to Venice, FL. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, enjoying his children and grandchildren's sporting events. His retirement hobbies included golf, fishing and playing bridge and other games with friends.
Dick was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Venice, Florida. He was blessed with a caring and cheerful nature. His life was enriched with many friends who will remember him for his humor and generosity. The family is requesting any donations be sent to either The Salvation Army or Tidewell Hospice.
Dick will be interred in the National Cemetery located at 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota FL 34241 with full military honors. A memorial service was held at Christ United Methodist.
