Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont and also participated in Bethel's Wednesday morning Bible class. Charles was a loving father, grandfather and an avid sports fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Sherrill Pope (Blackie), and a sister, Eula Belle Pope Waugh.
Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia Ann Pope and Deena June Pope Trivette and husband, John Neal Trivette, all of Newton; grandchildren, John Matthew Trivette and Clinton Neal Trivette, both of Newton; and nieces, Wanda Waugh Wingler and Kathy Waugh Fox, both of Statesville.
A service of remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, with the Revs. Craig Schultz and Eric Hollar officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
