Neely Smith was only five years old, and her life wasn't very easy. Even so, she was still a bright, happy little girl. She lived in an apartment complex. She was very outgoing. On the cold, rainy day of February 18, 1981, Neely Smith knocked on the door of her best friend's house. The girl's mother answered to find Neely- a runny nose, blue shirt, no coat on despite the pouring rain. Neely wanted to play, but the other girl was sick and couldn't come out. The girl's mother invited Neely to come inside, but she shook her head. She told her that she would just go find someone else to play with.
No one ever saw Neely again after that. Just like that, the bright, brown-haired girl was gone, snatched of the streets and into oblivion. Two months later, a police officer found her head along a back road, and her ribs were found some time later. But that was all anyone found of Neely Smith.
