Allan Edmond Luce
June 6, 1926 - March 18, 2016

Allan was born in Gilroy, California, to Earland B. and Pearl B. Luce on June 6, 1926. Growing up in Salinas, California, he enlisted in the US Navy shortly before his 18th birthday to be of service to his country during World War II. As a member of the original crew of the USS Edgecombe, he performed the duties of Signalman and operated amphibious landing craft, including during the April 1945 assault on Okinawa. His military awards include the Philippine Liberation Medal. After discharge, he returned to Salinas to complete his high school diploma and attend college.

After his parents moved to Bend, Oregon, in the early 50s, Allan decided to join them and soon met Naomi, a young widow who became his wife of 55 years and preceded him in death in 2009. In 1954, they moved to Pleasant Hill to build their family home and raised five children. Their oldest, Ken Williams, joined his mother in 2014. The surviving children are Marguerite Anderson of Yuma, Arizona, Tim (Debi) Luce and Carrie (Micah) Jones of Springfield, Oregon, and Dave (Teri) Luce of Eugene, Oregon. He had 14 grandchildren and, at last count, 16 great-grandchildren. Allan is also survived by his sister, Katherine Norris of Portland, Oregon.

The automotive industry was an easy professional fit for Allan. His knowledge of cars was evident to customers. Quick with a parts catalogue, he was faster with his amazing memory for such details. As a parts manager at a Chevrolet dealership, the combination of Allan's expertise and personality resulted in his becoming the top car salesman for the agency. His love for cars, however, was superseded by his love for music, especially the big band era. Allan knew not only the songs and related artists, but often the arranger of a particular recording from his extensive collection. Friends who indicated an interest in a particular genre, style, artist, or instrument would often receive a tape or CD of custom-selected recordings from him.

Above all, his faith and family were the core of Allan's heart and life. He lived as a quiet testimony to his Lord and Savior, blessing many who came in contact with him. All who wish to honor his memory and celebrate his residency change to Heaven are invited to attend the memorial service scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
