One of the kindest men ever born left this world on Friday. Sterrett O. Neale, proud father, loving husband, steadfast brother, and quiet leader, died September 22, 2006 in Salt Lake City. He was 81.

Born August 21, 1925, in Huntington, WV to Sterrett and Lessie Neale. Happily married for 42 years to fellow Huntingtonian, Charmian, who preceded him in death in 2004. They were parents to one son, Rett (Tracy). Charmian's daughter, Vicki Gabrielli, died in 2005. Sterrett and Charmian have one granddaughter, Kirsten Gabrielli (Bryan) of Hollywood, CA.

Sterrett had a full and blessed life. He enlisted in the Navy to defend his country during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Sterrett earned his B.A. from Marshall University and his M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve. He was a director in Huntington and Cleveland theaters before heading to California. While there, he worked as Southwest Regional Manager for Broadcast Music, Inc.

After retiring, he and Charmian and Rett moved to Salem, Utah to follow his dream of owning a radio station. A staunch Democrat, he never let the strong opinions of others erode his believe in dialogue. After five years as owner/operator of KONI/KTMP, he retired again, only to find another passion. In his later years, Sterrett decided to turn his life over to God, and became a lay minister. He was later ordained as an Interim Minister and served many congregations in central Utah. He found this phase of his life to be the most satisfying because he could finally help more people than ever before. He enriched many lives through his ministry, calm demeanor, and steadfast believes. When his physical situation deteriorated, he was grateful for all the love and support shown by his neighbors and many, many friends. His last years were spent at St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake City.

Survied by his son Rett (Tracy), two sisters, Anne Barrett and Catherine Tate and by nieces, nephews, and other family across the country.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2006 at Noon at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. Friends may call one house prior to the service for visitation. Graveside services will be held directly afterwards at the Salem City Cemetery.
