Margaret "Peg" K. Peterson, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 22nd after a heroic battle with cancer, surrounded by her husband and four children at Haven Hospice in Palatka. Born in Evanston, Illinois, to Roy and Maude (Langan) Kellogg, she retired to Mount Royal fifteen years ago from Maryland.
Peg was a registered nurse who graduated from the University of Maryland and worked for many years in Baltimore area hospitals, including Johns Hopkins and the Burn Unit at what was then City Hospital. Later, she also did community nursing, including WIC and AIDS prevention. She was co-founder and four time president of the Phoenix Republican Club. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Red Hats Society. She loved to travel, and as an Army Wife had the opportunity to live in Germany for 6 years and she explored much of Europe. But, the love of her life was her children and many grand and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alfred ‘Al’ Peterson, Crescent City; Sons, Brett (Christina) Peterson of Crescent City, Fred (Sharon) Peterson, Fayetteville, North Carolina and Bradley Peterson of Bel Air, Maryland; Daughter, Heather M. (Jared) Denhard, Columbia, Maryland; Brothers, Claude (Carol) Kellogg of Flat Rock, North Carolina and Roy (Sue) Kellogg of California; Grandchildren: Ransom, Harper, Morgan, Graham, Langan, Trystan and Finn Denhard; Vincent and Zachary Peterson; Jared Bunker, Christopher, Brian and Caroline Peterson; Great grandchildren, William Carnes, Vinny Peterson, Emily Peterson and Ethan Peterson.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Biggs Memorial Chapel and Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 28th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Jim May officiating. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Jacksonville.
