Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, March 28, at Saginaw United Methodist Church.
Bill was born in Fort Worth in 1937 and was a 1955 graduate of Carter-Riverside High School. He was pleased to have reunited with many of his classmates at their 50th class reunion in 2005. He attended Arlington State College and later graduated from Texas Christian University with a BBA. Bill also completed his MBA from TCU in 1966. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves, which supplied him lifelong with numerous stories to impart.
During college, Bill worked for Alcon Laboratories, which is where he met his future bride in 1960. Bill was employed by IBM as a systems engineer for 25 years until his retirement in 1991. While at IBM, he traveled to many interesting locales, often with Yvonne and Todd accompanying him. In his free time after retirement, he lent his computing expertise to the Saginaw Public Library as they transitioned to all computerized records. He loved puttering with chores on his farm in Saginaw, but his primary joy was watching any and all events in which his two grandsons participated. They were his joy.
Bill served as both a city councilman and the mayor of Saginaw for many years. He was one of the founders of the Saginaw 4-H club and volunteered coaching many baseball and rifle shooting teams. He and Yvonne were members of the Saginaw United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie July Black Flippo and Chester White Flippo, and his brother Chester W. “Chet” Flippo.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne; his son, Todd and wife, Jennifer; treasured grandsons, Cameron Gordon Flippo, and Travis William Flippo all of Saginaw; brother, Ernie Flippo and wife, Christine of Abington, Massachusetts; sister, Shirley Smith of Brandon, Florida; along with numerous friends and family.
