Mr. Joyner was born in Richmond. He was the owner of American Marine P & I Services Inc. He was a former Virginia state police officer and former director of port safety with Hampton Roads Shipping Association.
Survivors include his wife, June Swanner Joyner; two daughters, Michelle M. Joyner of Virginia Beach and Denise J. Sutton of Chesapeake; two sons, William G. Joyner and Jerry S. Joyner, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Helen K. Wooten of Suffolk; a brother, Gordon T. Joyner of Norfolk; and five grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Princess Anne Memorial Park by the Rev. Tom Mercer. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, and other times at the residence.
