Walter O. Schafer, son of Charles S. Schafer and Anna S. Clausen passed away October 3, 1983 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa of emphysema.

Walter was a lifelong resident of Dexter and graduated from the Dexter High School. He served in the Army Air Corps at Long Beach, California from 1942-1946.

He was united in marriage to Orma J. Wishmier in California and two children were born to this union. They returned to Dexter where Walter was a self-employed businessman, having developed the Happy Acres, now known as Diamond Head.

Walter was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter.

Survivors include his wife, Orma; a daughter, Norma Jean Parker, of Earlham; a son, Charles, of Dexter; four grandchildren, two brothers, Herman of Earlham and Peter of Dexter, also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were conducted October 6, 1983 at Zion Lutheran Church, Dexter, Iowa, with Pastor David Rempfer officiating. Organ music was provided by Helen Clausen. Pallbearers were Kirt Piper, Arnold Schirm, Eugene Schafer, Dorr Davis, Norman Smith, and Fred Fillman, Jr. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa.
