A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, a place she loved and always called home, she was married over 60 years to her beloved husband, Gordin, who predeceased her in 2002.
She had six children, David (D), Marc, Robert, Michael (D), Patrick (D), and Julie.
Born in 1922, Julia grew up in the Depression, an experience that molded her penchant for prudence, moderation, and an appreciation for the fruits of hard work. She raised her two eldest sons alone while her husband served in the army in the Pacific in WWII. After the war together they successfully built a family, life, and careers.
Julia was a devout Catholic, attended mass almost daily, and had resolute faith in God and His will, whatever happened. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children and expected of them a high level of dedication to whatever they had committed, whether education, jobs, spouses, or family. Julia was an accomplished seamstress, bridge player, cook, an avid reader, and became a world traveler. She always managed the money in the household, as well as most everything else. She had a wide circle of cherished friends and savored the joyous times they shared. At one point she belonged to five bridge clubs.
Much later in her life, when her husband became an invalid, she refused to even consider seeking professional help and remained his sole caretaker. This was an exhausting task, but she never once complained and was beside him when he passed away.
While her tasks in this life are now complete, her remaining children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends thoughtfully and devoutly pause to reflect on the accomplishments of this remarkable woman, the love she shared with each, and the lessons and example she set. These memories will always serve as a guide and inspiration.
A funeral service will be held in Biloxi, MS on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, followed by a graveside service at the Biloxi Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, FOCUS in Atlanta, or your favorite charity.
