D. A. THURMAN DIES SUNDAY
Daniel A. (Alec) Thurman, 89, Star Route, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter in the Shirley community.
Born in Delta County on Oct. 21, 1877, the son of E. A. and Lena Derryberry Thurman, he was a farmer.
His wife preceded him in death in 1957.
Mr. Thurman was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, D. A, Thurman, Jr., of Big Spring and Hurley Thurman of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Swindell of Dallas and Mrs. Fred Ponder of Sulphur Springs (Shirley community); seven grandchildren and 10 great-children.
Three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Sparkman of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Millie Pearl Aldridge of California and Mrs. Ray Detweiler of Kansas; and a brother, Dr. W. E. Thurman of San Angelo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Tapp Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in the Reilly Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Travis Lee Darby officiated.
Pallbearers were R. M. Jones, J. B. Harwell. Marion Winchester, Lonzo Craig, M. T. Young and James Cousion.
