Janice Elaine Stevens Rice DuPre’, 57, drew her last breath on Monday, March 21, surrounded by loved ones, with the sound of Amazing Grace softly playing in the background. The gentle reminder of the days when she was small, and her mother sang to her. She was a native of Houma, Louisiana and resident of Garden City, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 9:00 AM until Service time in the Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM in the Magnolia Chapel at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., with Entombment to follow at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

She is survived by her; Husband, Michael John DuPre’; Sons: Stephen Dean Rice and fiance Alissa Polley of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Jason Paul Rice and wife Jaedyn of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Step-sons: Shane Michael DuPre’ of Odessa, Texas and Jacque Michael DuPre’ of Plato, Missouri, Daughters: Jamie Jo Andersen and husband Nils Christian of Charlotte, NC., Jennifer Lynne Rice and companion Hunt Collins of Murietta, CA, Step-Daughter, Michelle Lorraine Barnes and husband Harold of Rockford, IL., One living grandchild and one on the way, Brothers: Michael Stevens, Sr., Joseph Stevens, Sr., Harry Stevens, Thomas Stevens, Gerald Stevens, John Stevens and Chris Stevens; and Sisters: Jacquelyn Regner, Linda Ward, Norma Gautreaux and Mary Cradeur.

She is preceded in death by her; Parents: Guy Hartwell Sevens, Sr., and Genevieve Draime Stevens; Brothers: Guy Stevens, Jr., and James Stevens, Sr.; and Sister: Dianne Pitre .

She fought a valiant fight against esophageal cancer, with sheer determination to live every moment she was given. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through almost a year of grueling chemotherapy. Yet even though her own struggle with cancer, she had this uncanny ability to make people laugh. Even in the darkest moments of her life, when she cracked a joke, you couldn’t help but smile.

Janice Elaine was born on December 2, 1958 to Genevieve and Guy Stevens. She was the first to arrive, with her twin brother, Gerald Wayne making his appearance shortly after. She joked with him that she would always be first in everything.

While she was at home she enjoyed painting, along with her expressing her creativity through crafts. If she saw something she liked she always tried to create it herself. She spent countless hours perfecting wall canvases, making masterpieces on bedroom walls, and decorating her home for the holidays. She also loved the outdoors and being with her two dogs, Rocky and Angel.

What she will be remembered most for was her love for her family. It was everything to her. One of her greatest joys was becoming a Grammy, and enjoyed spoiling her grandson every change she got. He fueled her desire to fight the good fight.

She was the family historian, the ultimate archive. Her love for genealogy would rival the love of the ultimate LSU fan. There was no one she couldn’t find, nothing she couldn’t unearth. She loved connecting family members with others. Living at a distance from most of her family in her adult life, she truly cherished each moment she had with them. Photographs were a passion because they allowed her to relive the happiest times of her life. Her life was lived creating experiences and memories for others, and she will live on in our hearts forever.
